Beefmasters were developed in the 1930s by Tom Lasater in South Texas, with the goal of producing a breed that could excel under the region’s harsh environmental conditions. This American composite breed was created using approximately 50% Brahman, 25% Hereford, and 25% Shorthorn genetics. The breed’s development was guided by Lasater’s “Six Essentials” — weight, conformation, milk production, fertility, hardiness, and disposition. These foundational traits have made the Beefmaster renowned for its adaptability, efficiency, and reproductive performance, positioning it as a preferred choice for progressive beef producers worldwide.
